Oct 6, 2025 - Mar 9, 2026
1.5 credits
Full course description
We are excited to announce an in-person professional learning opportunity for secondary science teachers in our district. Our professional development will be focused on phenomena-based instruction and implementation of the 3 dimensions of science education. This course will satisfy the science pedagogy portion of the new USBE science endorsement. For any of you who are currently not grandfathered into the previous endorsement system, the new endorsement system calls for all 6-12 science teachers to earn the 6-8 endorsement as a base endorsement, and then an endorsement in a specific content area, such as biology, chemistry, or physics.
Our professional learning will be focused on phenomena-based instruction, Science and Engineering Practices and Cross-Cutting concepts. Participants will need to commit to the following:
Read the assigned chapters in the provided book Ambitious Science Teaching by Mark Windschitl, Jessica Thompson, and Melissa Braaten
Implement the teaching practices learned in PD sessions. Evidence of implementation must include an in-person observation or a video submission and reflection.
Attend 3 in-person trainings. ISD will provide lunch and cover the cost of subs for all 3 days.
